In anticipation for the premiere of their new series, Hulu released a new trailer (the first peak was way back during the Super Bowl). This new psychological-horror series is directed by J.J. Abrams and is based on the fictional town of Castle Rock, popularized in the work of several Stephen King novels.
The trailer offers up a cryptic collection of clips, so it is hard to get a sense of the show beyond its creepy mood and thriller theme. However, we are given clues to familiar plots: Shawshank prison, a newspaper clipping of a rabid dog, an ominous church congregation, and Juniper Hill Psychiatric Hospital, to name a few. The events of the series appear to be precipitated by a man’s return to his hometown, again, par for the course for a King story.
Castle Rock stars veterans of the King multiverse: Sissy Spacek (Carrie), Bill Skarsgård (IT), Melanie Lyskey (Rose Red), and newcomers: André Holland, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn.
If you want to familiarize yourself with King’s canon to pick up on the easter eggs the show is bound to provide, check out the following: IT, The Body, Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption, Needful Things, The Dark Half, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and Cujo.
Castle Rock premieres on Hulu on Wednesday, July 25th.
