The Walking Dead is about to lose it’s biggest star.
Collider reported earlier today that Andrew Lincoln will exit the long-running series after season 9. And he won’t even be in every episode. So get your fill of Rick Grimes while you can, folks.
I stopped watching the show shortly after the departure of Steven Yeun and the show constantly turning on Rick and then depending on him to save the day. But I’ll most likely tune in for the end of Rick Grimes just to say goodbye to one of my favorite characters. Yes, I’m teak Rick and always will be. I’m curious as to how they are going to have him leave the series though. Seeing as he was the main character for so long, his leaving or death has to be brutal or devastating. Killing him would definitely pump up ratings and have social media buzzing, so I have a strong feeling the showrunners will go that route instead of something peaceful.
To fill the void of leading man, AMC has offered Norman Reedus substantial compensation to stay on board and have more screen time. Reedus has quite the fan base so I don’t think too many fans will be disappointed by this change.
Lincoln isn’t the only character that could be exiting the series. Lauren Cohen stood her ground to hold out for a better contract and she’s only going to be in six episodes of season 9 seeing as her ABC pilot, Whiskey Cavalier has been ordered to series. Doing two shows at once might be a little hectic and I’m sure Cohen wants to pursue new roles, so I’m betting on her leaving the series as well.
If you still watch the show, will you be sad to see Andrew Lincoln go? Are you at the point of not caring about The Walking Dead and this news means nothing?
