The Russo brothers are leaving the Marvel world for a bit to bring another comic series to life. Say hello to Deadly Class from Image Comics, created by Rick Remender and Wesley Craig.
Syfy has released the first trailer for the series which focuses on the high school, King’s Dominion Atelier of the Deadly Arts. You read that correctly, deadly arts. It’s a secret school built under the streets of San Francisco to train students to become master assassins. Oh, and it’s based in the 80’s!
Here’s the official synopsis:
Set in a dark, comic book world against the backdrop of late 80s counter culture, DEADLY CLASS follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the world’s top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital. Based on the best-selling 2014 Image Comics graphic novel, DEADLY CLASS is a coming of age journey full of ancient mystery and teen angst.
While I’ve never read the graphic novel, I feel like I can trust Remender when he assures fans that the series is really bringing the comic to life. The art from the pages seems to be popping off the screen in this trailer. Plus, the Russo brothers are involved and they’ve perfected bringing comics to live-action.
Deadly Class stars Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, Lana Condor, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Luke Tennie, Liam James, and Michel Duval.
The show will air on Syfy in 2019, no official premiere date yet.
