Well, we all now know that the hiatus will be dark and long…
…But as we wait for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, can someone please tell us about those spinoffs! Will they deliver some light in all this darkness?
The answer to that is NO! While chatting with TVLine, HBO president Casey Bloys, confirmed that ALL possible spinoffs will most likely not air (if they make it that far) until after the end of Game of Thrones:
Should we go forward and make a pilot and [then] a series, nothing would air on HBO until at least a year after Game of Thrones ends. We want the final season of Game of Thrones, being the special event that it is [to stand on its own]. We don’t want to use it to launch [a new series]. We want some separation there.
In addition to continuing to break our hearts, Bloys also gave some information about what characters we may be seeing in these spinoffs. Though Bloys can confirm that no current characters will be featured, “there may be [familiar] bloodlines.”
Okay, interesting, quick question though. Do “current characters” include flashback characters?
With this new information, I have taken a moment to update my Spinoffs Wish List. HBO, I am available to act as a contributing producer if needed, you’re welcome…
Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen: The Tale of Star-Crossed Lovers
This is literally the story that ALL GoT fans want to hear and though we met Lyanna last season and we may find out a bit more in flashbacks in season S7 and S8 we still want more. Was Lyanna really kidnapped or did she and the Targaryen prince fall in love and run away, setting off the chain of events that has now lead us to the current timeline? We would all be foolish to think this storyline is not one of the possible spinoffs.
The Treasure of Sapphire Isle
Is there really sapphires there? I am so confused!
The Secrets of Dorne
Since the whole Dorne storyline in Game of Thrones right now is kind of lackluster this place needs a second chance!
The Passion of the Red Priestess
Why not, people will watch it…I mean, these women clearly have some powerful abilities and we can learn more about this Lord of Light dude.
What is He So Mad About?: A Breakdown of the Mad King
What made the once powerful dragon king lose is marbles and then his throne.
Azor Ahai: The Prince Who Was Promised
I just want to know EVERYTHING about this man….mainly because I still think there is a Jon Snow tie in so…
The Princess and the Queen
This is a GRRM novella following to power hungry and determined Targaryen nobles that take place over 200 years in the past of our current timeline.
Game of Thrones will return in 2019.
Game of Thrones Spinoffs may air in 2020.
