Cassandra Clare Is Leaving the World of Shadowhunters for a NEW Adult Fantasy Series

Clare has been living in the shadows for ten years and is now ready to break free!

Weeks after announcing the title, cover, and publication date for the third and final book in The Dark Artifices series, news broke this week that Cassandra Clare is currently working on a brand-new adult fantasy series for Del Rey Books, an imprint of Random House!

The first book in the series is titled Sword Catcher and will feature the tales of “criminals, princes, magicians, and warriors.” Clare had this to say about the new book on her Tumblr page:

Sword Catcher will be the first book in my new series written for adults, my first ever high fantasy project. Many of my readers have been with me for years, and have grown along with my characters. And over those years, readers of all ages have come to me both to say that they would like to read books about older characters, and also to say that they’d love to see me build my own new world from the ground up.

These characters — criminals, princes, magicians, and warriors — have been in my head for a while, and I am eager to let them out. I can’t tell you the publication date yet, since the book is a work in progress. But I can’t wait to share more information with you when I have it.

It is hard to believe that City of Bones was released ten years ago in 2007 and Clare has been entertaining us with Shadowhunters, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and magic throughout THREE book series; The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and The Dark Artifices, the film City of Bones and the Freeform TV series Shadownhunters. During YALLFest earlier this month Clare announced the final book in The Dark Artifices. Queen of Air and Darkness is slated for a December 2018 release and will wrap up the Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn story, for now…

…Remember when we thought we heard the last about Clary and Jace?

Any who, Sword Catcher is taking place in a different world! Once we get an publication date for the book we will let you know!

So who is ready for a Clare adult fantasy series?
