Return to Mars with the new Red Rising: Son Of Ares comic book series…

With the news that the follow up to the Red Rising trilogy, Iron Gold, will not hit bookshelves until 2018, Howlers are looking to escape back into the world Brown created and now we can thanks to the Sons of Ares comic book series. The first issue in the on-going series from Dynamite hits comic shops this week and puts a face to the rise of the rebellion.

The series is a prequel story and follows the group of rebels called the Sons of Ares led by a beloved Rising character Fitchner au Barca as they assemble to take down the color-coded society which is ruled by The Golds.

The first issue of the series tells the origin story of Fitchner, which has a lot of parallels to Sevro au Barca storyline, in flashbacks as the Sons of Ares hold a Gold hostage. While the series really does cater towards Red Rising fans, it is a stand alone series – though maybe read Red Rising first then read Sons of Ares #1, just for context.

Thanks to Sons of Ares, we finally see a face to this world and at least one face to a beloved character. As someone who has emerged one’s self into this story it is nice to finally put an image to this world I have been building inside my mind. Hey, by the way where the bloodyhell is that movie?

Though there is no real new information given in the first issue, the issue is only just the beginning and sets up so many new stories to come. I foresee a long future for this series! If you care about Mars and the Rising than go get this prime comic!

The on-going series is written by Pierce Brown (Red Rising trilogy) and Rik Hoskin (Brandon Sanderson’s White Sand), with art by Eli Powell (Yazuka Demon KillersThe 13th Artifact). Here is the official synopsis for the series as well just so we have all our ducks in a row:

In the future, when mankind has spread across the stars, the hierarchy of man is dictated by the color of one’s caste. The Golds rule all, but what will happen when one falls for a lowly Red? See how a forbidden love will set the course of events for the future and lead to the formation of the formidable Sons of Ares!

Red Rising: Son Of Ares #1 is available Wednesday May, 10th!
