Well, isn’t this a twist. Another Hellboy movie is happening but not with Guillermo del Toro or Ron Perlman. Dun, dun, dun.
A while back, del Toro took to Twitter to officially announce that Hellboy 3 was not happening despite his best efforts and that was to be the final thing about it. Turns out it was just his involvement with the franchise that was the end of it, which is still a bummer because I love del Toro’s work.
Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola recently took to his Facebook page to announce that a new movie will be happening and will star David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy with Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) directing the R-rated movie.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out and confirmed that production company Millenium was in negotiations to produce the reboot of the character and that the current possible title is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. Which leads me to assume they will be pulling their story mainly from Hellboy: The Wild Hunt. The script is being written by Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, and Christopher Golden.
David Harbour announced his role with this lovely tweet. Too bad the devil emoji is purple instead of red.
Selma Blair who starred in the Hellboy movies as pyrokinetic Liz Sherman wished David Harbour all the luck on his new role.
I hope we see Perlman pass the hand of doom over graciously.
So are you excited to see the series get a new look on the big screen? Or do you wish del Toro and Perlman were teaming up again?
Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen is slated for a 2018 release.
