‘The Dark Tower’ Trailer Was Released and We Are Ready to Follow It Across the Desert

Yesterday everyone was freaking out over Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey basically roleplaying their characters Roland the gunslinger and Randall Flagg, the Man in Black on Twitter.

I love that they got into this! It shows that they are really into this movie and it’s not just any old role. Of course, fans knew this meant something was on its way and they were right! The Dark Tower trailer was released today and MY GOD IT IS GLORIOUS!

The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.

Roland the gunslinger is the last in a group of gun-wielding knights in an apocalyptic world. He’s trying to get to the mystical tower aka the Dark Tower that binds all of space and time. But the Man in Black, a demonic magic-wielder is trying to do just the same. Come on boys, can’t you just share?

They can take shortcuts, which happens to run through our time and place. Which is where they both go to nab Jake Chambers, a young boy from New York City who has psychic abilities that will help them complete their journey. Jake has the power of “shine,” which can either destroy the tower or strengthen it. If the term “having the shine” sounds familiar, might I remind you that this movie is based off a Stephen King series AND all of his novels are connected by the character Randall Flagg who makes an appearance in all of them. “Having the shine” is from The Shining but I guess dealing with a creepy dad and hotel kept Randall and Roland from using Danny.

I’m sure nods to other Stephen King novels will make an appearance in the movie but I’m hoping they are sort of like easter eggs rather than laying it on thick. Because I really just want to enjoy this movie and by the look of the trailer, I really think I will.

The Dark Tower hits theaters on August 4, 2017.
