Doreen Green aka the one and only Squirrel Girl is getting ready for her close up on the silver screen!

It was announced via The Hollywood Reporter that Marvel’s New Warriors has officially been picked up by Freeform to go straight-to-series. And if that wasn’t news enough, it was also announced that the most positive role model and all around amaze-ball young Marvel superhero, Squirrel Girl, will lead this squad.

TV alum, Kevin Biegel, is close to sealing a deal with Freeform to pen and be the showrunner for the series. New Warriors marks the second time Marvel will team with the Disney-owned network. In the winter of 2018 the network will release Cloak and Dagger. As for New Warriors, the series will be a ten episode comedy that is slated to launch in 2018.

What we know about the plot is that the series will center around six young “super” people who will work together to help make a difference and protect the world. Though it should be noted that these “super” people powers are on a different level than the famous Avengers. Marvel has only announced that Squirrel Girl, “totally empowering fan girl who is described as tough, optimistic and a natural leader,” will be the leader. When asked by THR about who else might pop up in the series — please, oh please let Ms. Marvel be a part of this even if she is with a different crew in the comic crew, I mean I will *literally* freak out if Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel are in the same show! I would even take Howard the Duck. Freeform’s Executive VP of Programming, Karey Burke, had this to say:

You’ll have to wait and see. We know who they are but I’m not at liberty to say.

Just like they are not talking about the other characters, they are also not talking about casting either. Though it seems like social media is pro Stranger Things fan-favorite Shannon Purser to play Doreen. Can you say #JusticeForBarb?

Now you may be thinking, this is wonderful news but how many Marvel shows are happening right now? Well, the answer is A LOT and they are kind of all over the place. We have two mentioned above at Freeform, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and coming soon Inhumans at ABC, Netflix has Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders as well as The Punisher, FX has the hit Legion and another pilot in the works, and finally, Hulu has Runaways in the works. So there is a little Marvel for everyone on at least one channel you have access to…so YAY but also WOW that is a lot of stuff to watch so I really do never have to leave my house!

Any who, we are super excited for New Warriors and you should be too. As always we will keep you up to date on this series and all ALL Marvel series.

New Warriors will take on Freeform in 2018!
