Unbound Worlds Brings Back Their Literary Cage Match – It’s Time for Sci-Fi and Fantasy to Battle it Out!

March Madness driving you crazy? What if it was literary-madness? The folks over at Unbound Worlds and Penguin Random House have been doing just that for the past 7 years.

This year the theme for the Cage Match is Sci-Fi vs Fantasy! Right up my alley. 32 characters will battle to the death in authors imagined battles of the characters. Past years had authors George R. R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, Naomi Novik, Pierce Brown, and Lev Grossman writing some epic battles. That’s right. You get new and fun short stories every round.

What can you expect to see this year? Mr. Wednesday of American Gods fighting Marvin from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe. Miriam Black of Blackbirds facing off against Molly Millions from the Sprawl Trilogy. But if you want your favorite to win, you have to vote! Just thinking it achieves nothing but disappointment from your favorite author. Voting will also enter you for the chance to win all 32 books the Cage Match players are in!

The Cage Match kicks off on March 6th and will go for five rounds until a winner from either Sci-Fi or Fantasy is crowned. Until then maybe start taking bets with your friends to see who will advance and who will win.

Is one of your favorite characters on the list? Who do you think will win?
