I’ve been feeling very conflicted about the upcoming Lionsgate Power Rangers movie. Like most adults that grew up in the 90’s this show was my world. Costumes, toys, never missing an episode. You get my drift. This movie just seemed to be another entry in going the nostalgia route for ideas. Then actors such as Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston and Bill Hader joined the cast and I had to pause and wonder if this movie could be headed in the right direction. The first trailer premiered at New York Comic-Con and I’m still teetering about it.
This movie seems to be going the DC/Snyder route of a being a little too dark and gritty. It was a colorful, action-packed show that was fun and silly at times. Granted, I was a kid at the time but my memory isn’t that horrible. Maybe I’m too old for this movie (I’m still in my 20’s) but I really don’t want to see Power Rangers be the love child of The Breakfast Club and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Nor do I want to see Alpha 5 resemble Marvin the Paranoid Android.
How do you feel about this movie? Power Rangers hits theaters in March 2017.
