Nintendo Direct 3DS Says The Handheld Isn’t Dead

share on:

I will happily and easily say that the Nintendo 3DS has been the little console that could. If we consider every iteration of the platform it is difficult to argue that it’s been one of the most successful gaming devices in the last decade. With the NX coming early 2017 and the WiiU almost certainly being phased out, many speculated a similar fate for 3DS. Nintendo is all like “Nah-uh” as it has showcased a bunch of games, updates for 2016 and early plans for 2017.

I won’t go too in-depth beyond listing the updates and maybe some notes. You can watch the full Direct yourself and look out for other posts on specific items coming soon!

Coming in 2016:

Pokemon Sun and Moon – 3 new starter Pokemon, some familiar Pokemon have Sun/Moon changes that fit with the lore.

Super Mario Maker 3DS  – Coming Dec. 2nd, not every WiiU stage will be compatible but there will still be tons of content. 100 levels packed in with the game.

Mario Party Star Rush – Aiming to speed up the game by eliminating turns but getting to bosses first doesn’t mean an automatic win. Will feature Toad.

Animal Crossing New Leaf – Adding new features and new animal crossing cards.

Mii Plaza Updates – Adding quick plaza to speed up the experience. Mii Plaza Premium adds up to 100 potential StreetPass visitors vs. 10 originally. 5 new games.

Tank Troopers – Somehwat like Mario Kart with Tanks and paint. Taking the Splatoon approach by taking a violent concept and adding whimsy/color to it. Great idea and looks fun!

Picross 3D Round 2 – Demo available now.

#Nindies – Nintendo Indie Games get the spotlight every Thursday. Discounted games and developer videos.

NES Classic Edition -Still the best package for the dude at Target who hasn’t played video games since he was a kid. Also awesome to have a tiny Nintendo in your house.

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword – Released Today on WiiU eShop.

That’s everything! Pardon the crude notes. Just watch the thing 🙂

Christian Rivera

Christian Rivera

Long ago in a land covered in Dragonball Z websites there was a pile of rubble amidst a destroyed cityscape. The pile shook and the ashes rose from the ground slowly then suddenly beams of light arose from the mound of rock and debris. Christian Rivera then bursted out of this cement cage with fire of a thousand suns, yelling for no apparent reason but somehow it made him stronger. He kept yelling, incessantly, actually, until someone said "Hey, hey, calm down!" and so he did. When the dust settled he began his career as a writer, designer and producer with a mostly okay power level.
