God has finally spoken the release date of Preacher

Okay, it wasn’t God, it was actually AMC. The highly anticipated comic book adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion’s Vertigo series will be making it’s debut right after the midseason finale of Fear the Walking Dead on May 22 at 10pm. But the second episode won’t be premiering until June 5, taking over Fear the Walking Dead‘s 9pm spot the week after it’s finale. The first season will run for 10 episodes.

Dominic Cooper plays Jesse Custer, a preacher merged with an otherwordly creature that grants him the power to command anyone. But Heaven and Hell aren’t happy about this and it forces Custer to go on a roadtrip with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), an Irish vampire, to find God.

Those in attendance at SXSW were lucky enough to watch the premiere that is said to give Deadpool a run for it’s money in violence and wit. And one scene in particular really stuck out. Tom Cruise getting blown up.

The premiere shows preachers around the world being possessed and then exploding. A news report in the episode shows Tom Cruise speaking in front of the Church of Scientology and then getting his body parts strewn all over the Church.

Who else has cancelled their plans for May 22 already?
