Struck by Lightning Chris Colfer Rebel Wilson

The first official theatrical trailer for Glee star Chris Colfer’s feature film writing debut, Struck by Lightning, dropped yesterday, and it is just as whimsical, cheeky, and hilarious as you would expect.

The film follows Carson Phillips (Colfer), a high school senior who just wants to get into the college of his dreams, and get out of Clover. After he is struck and killed by lightning, Carson recounts the story of how he blackmailed his entire school into contributing to his literary magazine in order to accomplish his goals, and take advantage of the crappy situation that is high school. He is aided in his endeavor by his best friend Malerie.

I’ve been waiting for this movie since it was first announced about a year ago. Colfer, though young, is already a published author, and has sold a show to the Disney Channel. He is extremely funny, and, if the trailer is any indication, actually has some writing chops (at least as far as one liners go). The film itself has received praise on the festival circuit, and according to IMDb will be released online in December.

Struck by Lightning also stars Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, and Angela Kinsey.
