New Zealand Gets ‘Hobbit’ Money

So New Zealand just got super fancy. Stamps and coins are being produced in honor of The Hobbit. New Zealand Post has collaborated with The Hobbit’s makers to produce the stamps and legal tender.

Yes, the money is legal and not just collectable. I am insanely jealous that I don’t get to purchase anything with Gandalf or Gollum on it…

These items will go on sale starting November 1st but can be pre-ordered through the main New Zealand Post website.

Sir Ian McKellen had this to say about the stamps:

“To put Gandalf on these splendiferous coins is a wizard idea. The pointy hat, the beard and the illuminated staff – the $1.90 NZ stamp is pure Gandalf.”

New Zealand is the only country with the legal right to put Hobbit-related images on legal tender, which continues to remind people that New Zealand is Middle Earth. Deal with it and just go to New Zealand if you want to visit Middle Earth. And have money that has Dwarvish language on it.
