Garfield and Webb to Return for ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Sequel

It has been confirmed that both director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield will be returning for the sequel to this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

The sequel will be penned by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, and is based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. Columbia Pictures is set to begin production on the film early next year, with a release date set for May 2, 2014. It will be released in 3-D.

Emma Stone is reportedly in talks to reprise her role as Peter Parker’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy. There is not yet any news regarding the story or villains, but rumors have been flying, including speculation that it will include Gwen’s inevitable death, an event Stone is not only prepared for, but actually rooting for, saying, “I think that’s a hugely important part of her story and of this incarnation of Spider-Man. I think that was very important to everybody.”
