Trailer: Oz the Great and Powerful
Of the many things coming out of this year’s San Diego Comic Con is the trailer for the much anticipated ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ the newest film from Disney, Roth Films (producers of Alice in Wonderland), and director Sam Raimi. The film is an adaptation of one of the lesser known Oz books by L. Frank Baum, which tells the story of how the Great and Powerful Oz went from humble, and rather drunk, Kansas magician and con artist, to ruler of the Emerald City.
The film certainly looks interesting enough, and I’m very pleased with the dark style of the land of Oz, which is very much on par with Baum’s original stories. What concerns me is the casting of James Franco. Sure, he’s a very capable actor, I just don’t particularly picture him pulling off this role with the same finesse that earlier casting (Robert Downey, Jr., Johnny Depp) may have been able to.
Rachel Weiz, Michelle Williams, and Mila Kunis also star as the three witches of Oz. The film is due in theaters March 8th of next year.
