Jim Parsons, Rihanna to Co-Star in ‘Smekday’

Rihanna will be joining the cast of the upcoming animated feature Happy Smekday alongside Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons. The film is based on the acclaimed children’s novelThe True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex.

In the book, Earth has been invaded by aliens named the Boov, who have renamed the planet Smekland after their leader, Captain Smek. Smekday marks the day they first arrived.

The story follows Gratuity Tucci, an 11-year-old girl who is living on her own after her mother’s abduction by aliens. She writes the story as an essay to be put into a time capsule and opened 100 years later. The main plot consists of her travels across the US with a friendly Boov named J.Lo, and their adventures along the way, including the fact that J.Lo has accidentally summoned an evil(er) race of aliens named the Grog.

The film is being produced by Dreamworks Animation, and has a tentative release of late 2014.
